Soil Amendments
They don't call this "Clay" County for nothing!
In many places around this area we have very compact,
clay soil. Many times you need to "amend" the soil to
help your plants get a good root start into the ground.
Here are some options for you.
Soil Activator - A safe, natural way to help return to the soil valuable
nutrients found in grass clippings and thatch. Activator promotes
chelation of available nutrients, assists in nutrient uptake and
improves the growth of beneficial micro-organisms.
Cotton Boll Compost - Using compost as mulch, in the soil or as
potting media is beneficial in many ways. Compost contains a
full spectrum of essential plant nutrients. Compost helps bind
clusters of soil particles, called aggregates, which provide good
soil structure. Such soil is full of tiny air channels & pores that
hold air, moisture and nutrients. Compost brings and feeds
diverse life in the soil. These bacteria, fungi, insects, worms and
more support healthy plant growth. Compost increases soil’s ability
to retain water & decreases runoff. Runoff pollutes water by carrying
soil, fertilizers and pesticides to nearby streams.
Peat Moss is a natural, organic soil conditioner that regulates moisture
and air around plant roots for ideal growing conditions. It will help
save water, aerate heavy clay soil, reduce leaching, protect soil from
hardening, and add organic material.
